Get books

Our first five Persian-language children's books are now available! We also offer 5 Ukrainian children's books.

To apply for books from Books Away From Home, you must be or represent one of the following:

• Refugee shelter/hostel

• Refugee family or host family

• School

• Hospital

• Library

• Community Center

Schools, hospitals, libraries and community centers can order our books at cost price (Ukrainian: 6 euros per set; Persian, 11 euros per set) plus shipping. Books are free* for refugee shelters/hostels, refugee families and host families, though shipping costs will apply. We strive to keep costs as low as possible and are completely non-profit: all money from sales is used to print and distribute additional books and fund new projects. Book delivery times will vary. While you're waiting, be sure to check this website regularly for ideas, games and reading material for the refugee kids in your classroom, neighborhood, and family.

Use the application form on this page to order. Families are eligible for one set, but do let us know if you need extra sets for friends and neighbors. Feel free to contact us if your own situation does not fall into one of the above categories. We're happy to discuss other options.

Note to refugee and host families: please bear in mind that these free books are intended for refugee families that are unable to afford the cost price. If you would like to apply as a family and do have the means to pay the cost price, please contact us at info@booksawayfromhome.org and we will tell you what to do next 🙂. Your payment will help us send even more free books to those who need them. Thanks!

*Refugee families that apply individually will always receive free books. Refugee shelters are also eligible for free books, unless there is a second (funded) partner involved, such as the Municipal Health Service (GGD) in the Netherlands. In such cases we ask for the cost price, as described above.
